About Us

cFront Software was started in April 2010 by Stuart Nisbett and Rob Watkins.

Although we are a relatively new company, between us we have 25 years of experience developing bespoke software and websites.

We believe in working closely with clients to create a solution that fits exactly what you need.

Because of our long experience in the industry, we are not tied to any one technology.

We will use whatever is most suited for your project, and we can easily create custom functionality "from the ground up". We use third party products as tools, not solutions.

We also collaborate with graphic designers on projects to provide both programming experience and high quality professional design.

Rob has a BSc in Computer Science with Artificial Intelligence from the University of Sussex, and has been working as a developer in the industry since 1997.

Stuart has a BSc in Physics with Management Studies from the University of Sussex and has been working as a developer and designer since 2001. Prior to that he was involved in the start up of an online wine merchant and the implementation of an IT system to manage transport routes for a logistics company.

Microsoft .NET

We have developed with Microsoft technologies for over ten years and now primarily develop in C# for .NET. We have developed many websites in ASP.NET, and for several years now have been developing desktop applications using Windows Forms.

Dynamic Websites

We have been using Javascript to spice up our websites across all browsers since Rob wrote a Breakout game for IE4 and Netscape 4 in the late 1990s. Today, we use the popular JQuery library and AJAX techniques for rich user interfaces, with Facebook and Twitter integration so your site can join the social media revolution.

Umbraco

There is little point developing a website these days without a CMS backing it - and we love Umbraco. It is a free, open source CMS for Microsoft platforms notable for its clear interface, XML based standards compliant structure and easy and infinite extensibility. From a business point of view, it is extremely easy to integrate the content system with your back-office systems using custom XSLT extensions and .NET user controls. Our site is built on it, as are many of our clients.

PHP / Wordpress

Because a Microsoft solution is not always appropriate, we also have experience using the popular free PHP / MySQL combination, developing sites using WordPress as the CMS, and shopping sites with the PHP shopping cart CubeCart. We have extensive experience working with PHP solutions on a Microsoft platform.

Databases

We have been developing with Microsoft SQL Server for over ten years, and all of our larger sites are built on it - we have also used the free version, SQL Server Express Edition for smaller installations where cost is an issue. Recently, more of our work has been with MySQL - this is easy to install, easy to use, and its free and open source nature makes it a very strong contender, even on Microsoft platforms.

And more!

Because we don't have a narrow specialism, we have experience with a broad range of technologies and standards. Many of our older websites (and some new ones, where appropriate!) are built in JScript on the old ASP platform. We have built desktop applications using Borland (now Embarcadero) Delphi. We have been developing EDIFACT tools for many years, and have in-depth knowledge of the EDIFACT file format and invoicing standards.
